Wetplate Collodion Workshops

Workshops typically take place from my home studio in Cardiff, South Wales. I can also travel to your location for a more personal touch. In the past I have given workshops at local college campuses such as Coleg Gwent and Coleg y Cymoedd.

I have worked with the wetplate collodion process since 2009. Learning off a venerable practitioner of the process in North Wales during the second year of university. This gives me fifteen years experience and a solid grounding the process.

I am one of only a handful of wetplate photographers in the UK mixing their own chemistry. This lends me an intimate knowledge of the materials used.

The workshops are designed to demystify what is a seemingly esoteric process.
They allow you to learn the wet collodion process in a relaxed, supportive and enjoyable way. I pride myself in giving clear guidance in easy to understand terms and supporting you through each step of the process. Wetplate collodion is a tactile process and you will get hands on experience in;

Preparing glass
Flowing plates
Sensitizing
Exposing
Developing
Fixing
Scanning and varnishing

We will use both glass and aluminum and shoot in natural and artificial light to cover all bases.
By the end of the day you will have your own finished plates to take home and the confidence to produce your own images.
I freely offer support after the workshop to to help you fully find your feet.

The size of my home darkroom means class sizes are limited to one or two attendees. This ensures that you will get all the personal help and support you need. Basic photography skills are welcome but not essential.
